Women's Relief Initiative is eligible to receive tax-exempt donations in the USA under tax ID number 84-5089023. WRI is a non-profit organization that originally started out as a student organization at the University of Texas at Austin campus. Our mission is combat period poverty throughout the world through women's empowerment, community, health, education, sustainability, and innovation. The organization provides short-term relief for menstruators with no access to proper menstrual hygiene products through our donation efforts and international partnerships. In the meantime, we focus on our ultimate goal of eventually providing long-term relief. A large portion of our donations go to WRI's research team, who is working on the development of a 100% biodegradable sanitary pad that is meant to be integrated within underserved communities across the globe. Another huge goal is our focuses on health education and de-stigmatization surrounding menstruation through organized events and campaigns. We strive to create safe spaces within schools and communities as local organizations, both globally and virtually through our open conversations surrounding menstruation (check out our podcast series: Code Red Conversations: A Period Podcast). Through these different spaces, we strive to educate communities and raise awareness about period poverty while also encouraging effective discussions and reducing the stigma around menstruation in order to aid towards the empowerment of women in these communities.
