Medical Services:
Shifa Healthcare operates Six Community Clinics that have served more than 100,000 individuals: low- income, uninsured, underserved, and poverty-stricken families of the Greater Houston Areas. Since 2015; the Synott clinic alone has served more than 18,000 medical patients whereas, the other five clinics have served 16,000 patients based on their once-a-day operation. More than 3,000 FREE COVID Tests were done in 2020. Additional 4,000 Families were supported for Food, Employment, Shelter, and Economic support during COVID Pandemic. Ninety-nine percent of our patients are uninsured, underinsured, or lack basic documentation to access quality medical care. Destitute women (60%) frequently avail services than men (40%). Children are less than 10% whereas, the majority of health care beneficiaries are between ages 25 to 65 (70%). Uninsured seniors ages 65 and above (20%) use medical services for chronic conditions and continuum of care. Shifa Healthcare staff is very diverse that speaks multiple languages that provide easy access and comfort in presenting their medical problems in their own languages, especially seniors who would like to attend Shifa Clinics due to easily speak multiple languages. However, transport is a barrier to access to community health services. There is no local transport that operates around Shifa Clinics. We are very honored to have more than 100 volunteer physicians, dentists, multi-specialty doctors, and allied healthcare professionals who dedicatedly volunteer their time to serve indigent patients. We are highly blessed with this large qualified human resource group available for the care to our low-income patients. Shifa Healthcare provides free services however, donations are accepted at the patient’s ability to pay. We do not deny anyone who cannot afford medical care. An appointment is not necessary for medical services and no insurance is required to access Shifa Healthcare Clinics.
Dental Services:
Shifa Dental Services are offered in the Synott Clinic to those who cannot afford dental care, this clinic is very booked and has a long waiting time. Appointments are necessary. Two dental operatories, x-ray, panoramic x-ray, and other necessary equipment provide services to uninsured adults and seniors. The clinic provides dental extraction, fillings, deep cleaning, and other necessary services that reduce pain and human suffering. Shifa clinic need to extend dental care as it is in high demand.
Eye Screening:
Shifa Synott currently offers eye care services with the University of Houston, Ophthalmology Department once a month. These services include exclusive eye exams for all ages, particularly the identification of cataracts, glaucoma, and other chronic retinal conditions to prevent blindness.
Shifa Women’s Center:
Shifa Women Center has provided wonderful shelter and support services to destitute women and children to stay safe and comfortable. It is a 26 bedded capacity with large family size rooms to accommodate children with their mothers. Last year 2,070 nights were stayed by the Women (60%) and Children (40%). Currently, the center is 58% occupied over the consolidated years. Women victims of violence and abuse to children due to economic hardship get shelter at the Women’s Center. This center provides rehabilitation, education, support services, case management, connecting to government resources, employment to mothers, and resettles families in the community. The Shelter offers high confidentiality, protection, and no access to the abuser.
Social Support Services:
Since 2012; 24,300 individuals and families have received social support services that include food and shelter assistance, refugees settlement, legal and immigration support services, job search and employment, counseling on domestic violence, education, English language classes to immigrants and seniors provided scholarships to highly talented, genius and indigent students to acquire post-secondary and university education, financial assistance through community funding resources, stress management, enrolling in government health care programs and guidance to access healthcare on long term illness and chronic conditions including hospitalization and pregnancy services.
