Since its inception in 2009, JDC Welfare Foundation has dedicated itself to the service of Pakistan’s underprivileged, providing vital assistance without discrimination. This non-governmental organization works across many humanitarian fields, from disaster relief to healthcare, education, and food security. Operating with a strong commitment to equality, JDC’s efforts are aimed at making essential resources accessible to all, regardless of background or social status. The nonprofit organization was founded by Syed Zafar Abbas Jafri with the support of various youth groups.
JDC envisions a just and equitable society, where everyone has the right to access fundamental resources like healthcare, education, and essential services. JDC strives to help individuals improve their lives by creating an environment where they can access these necessities without fear of discrimination.
The mission of JDC is grounded in providing sustainable solutions to Pakistan’s socio-economic challenges. JDC goes beyond immediate aid, focusing on empowering communities to sustain themselves through comprehensive initiatives. By investing in community welfare and fostering self-reliance, JDC aims to create lasting change across the country.
One of JDC’s key healthcare services is its free dialysis centers, which provide life-saving treatments to those in need. Dialysis centers are scarce in Pakistan, and each patient’s treatment costs over $3,000 per year, making it unaffordable for many. JDC’s centers ensure that these essential services are accessible to everyone, especially those who cannot afford private healthcare. Additionally, JDC’s mobile medical clinics reach remote areas, delivering quality healthcare to underserved populations.
“In today's era, people don't have enough to eat, so how will they afford their healthcare? The JDC Foundation is no less than a blessing for us. We are very thankful to JDC,” says Iqbal Ali who is one of the patients undergoing dialysisis at one of JDC’s centers.
Currently JDC operates nine dialysis centers with more than 40 dialysis machines in Pakistan and has set an ambitious goal to offer 360,000 free dialysis per year.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, JDC quickly adapted to the rising health crisis by establishing free COVID-19 hospitals and diagnostic labs. These facilities were among the first of their kind in Pakistan, allowing patients to receive critical care at no cost. JDC’s diagnostic labs offer testing services that are crucial for early detection and treatment, alleviating the financial burden of healthcare for many families.
JDC also addresses the needs of the elderly and people with disabilities. Through old age homes, JDC provides shelter, care, and companionship to seniors who may otherwise be isolated or without support. Their disability support programs aim to improve the quality of life for those facing physical or mental challenges, ensuring they receive the assistance they need.
Natural disasters like floods devastate communities in Pakistan, destroying homes, livelihoods, and access to basic resources. JDC responds to these crises with a robust relief program that provides food, shelter, and medical assistance to affected families. Through swift action, JDC helps communities recover and rebuild, offering them the support they need to regain stability.
JDC’s free ambulance service provides essential emergency transportation, helping patients reach medical facilities quickly and safely. For those in immediate need, this service can be life-saving, ensuring that they receive urgent care regardless of their financial situation.
Beyond immediate relief, JDC invests in community disaster preparedness, training local volunteers to respond effectively to emergencies. By equipping communities with the knowledge and tools to handle crises, JDC helps foster resilience, making recovery efforts more efficient and sustainable.
Education is a fundamental right, yet many children in Pakistan lack access to quality schooling. JDC addresses this gap by establishing free schools and educational centers, offering students a chance to pursue learning in a supportive environment. These centers follow a modern curriculum, preparing children for a brighter future and helping them build the foundation for lifelong success.
JDC’s IT City project is a unique initiative focused on vocational training, particularly in information technology. Through free training programs, young people gain valuable skills in IT and other fields, empowering them with the tools needed for employment. This training not only enhances individual lives but also contributes to broader economic development by creating a skilled workforce.
In addition to formal education, JDC offers scholarships and resources for young people pursuing academic and career goals. By removing financial barriers, JDC enables students to reach their full potential, paving the way for a new generation of leaders and professionals.
Every day, JDC’s Dastarkhwan and mobile restaurants serve free meals to underprivileged individuals. These dining spaces, where anyone can receive a nourishing meal, help alleviate hunger and provide dignity to those facing hardship. JDC’s commitment to food security ensures that even the most vulnerable have access to regular, healthy meals. Currently JDC has free food points in more than 12 locations around the country.
In addition to daily meals, JDC distributes ration bags to families experiencing food insecurity. These bags contain essential food items, helping families in extreme poverty meet their basic nutritional needs. JDC’s regular ration distribution is an integral part of its commitment to combat hunger across Pakistan.
Recognizing the financial strain that weddings can place on families, JDC provides marriage support and dowry assistance to those in need. This program offers relief to families who might otherwise struggle to cover these costs, enabling them to celebrate important milestones with dignity and joy.
JDC’s humanitarian mission is strengthened by its volunteers, who come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique skills to the organization’s projects. Volunteers are encouraged to join JDC, where they can make a meaningful impact in fields ranging from healthcare and education to disaster response.
Volunteers at JDC play a crucial role in disaster relief, food distribution, and various social welfare initiatives. Their efforts not only support JDC’s projects but also inspire others to contribute to community welfare, creating a culture of compassion and active engagement.
